I love lists!
I make lists to go to the supermarket weekly, lists of my thoughts, lists of pros and cons whenever I need to see things from all perspectives, lists of things I can't forget to pack whenever I am traveling, lists of countries I visited, films I have watched this year, and quotes to live by. I list it all! It's one of the ways I organize my brain as an overthinker.
As the end of the year approaches, my overanalysis begins by listing learnings and important things to take forward as a type of brain cleanse.
And I decided to share with you one list I am taking from this year as a 34-year-old person.
37 Hard Pills to Swallow But Essential To Digest:
Whatever needs to be said, say it. Otherwise, you'll have to listen to what you didn't say for the rest of your life (in your head). The word that was not said torments when it remains.
What makes it extraordinary isn't creativity; it's consistency.
The most significant changes in your life are those no one can make except you.
The key to any kind of relationship is transparent communication. No one should have to figure out or guess what's going on in the other person's mind (not even your long-time friends).
No matter where life takes you, your childhood friends will always look at you the way they did in school, which is very comforting.
It's impossible not to get hurt by living fully.
The white hairs that keep constantly appearing on my head feel like a slap in the face, reminding me that I'm not that young anymore.
You are not able to change anyone but yourself.
Silence hurts more than words because no one wants to be left in the unknown.
True friends will stop their lives for you in case of an emergency.
We get the love we think we deserve (not only romantic love): choose wisely.
Everyone should be born with a 2-year therapy paid plan.
It's not about quantity anymore; it's definitely quality.
To truly learn to let something go is needed but hurtful.
The concept of beauty evolves as you age. A pretty face is not enough.
Reaching out to your therapist to help you make a decision should make you reevaluate your process. After all, this is not what therapy is for. Your therapist is not a guru.
As you get older, you deeply understand the meaning of "friends are the family you choose."
Regrets are part of growing up (and wrong decisions, too.)
Everyone should go to therapy once, but no one should live off it.
The more you make peace with the mirror, the more you learn about acceptance.
Falling asleep on a sofa after your 30s is a deep regret once you wake up, and your body reminds you not to take for granted a good bed.
Self-pity is not cute. Lift your head because there's always tomorrow to restart, reset and continue.
Your life is only entirely yours once you learn to set boundaries.
Making real friends after your 30s is a rollercoaster of tryouts.
Not everyone deserves a second chance.
Diets are a short term solution that fuels a long term problem.
Being late is not chic, respecting other people's time is.
Love is peaceful (and I love it).
You can prepare yourself for things, but you will never feel fully ready (and that's exciting and shitty at the same time).
To change is cool. Everything changes, even your opinion and taste, try not to resist. It’s part of evolving.
Comfort zone can be your biggest enemy.
Expectations can hurt more than bad results.
Routine is essential, not dull.
True friends make a big difference in life.
There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.
If I could go back, I still wouldn't change a thing because I am a compilation of everything I've lived.
Every new beginning is born out of discomfort.
